The highest of Oozumou Divisions.

It is also called Makunouchi.

It is comprised of Rikishi holding the following ranks, in descending order of importance:

1. Yokodzuna
2. Oozeki
3. Sekiwake
4. Komusubi
5. Maegashira

Oozeki, Sekiwake, and Komusubi ranks are also collectively known as the Sanyaku ranks.

Maegashira Rikishi are also known as Hiramaku.

Only Rikishi in Makuuchi and Juuryou are considered professionals. Rikishi in the lower Divisions are Minarai - students, only studying the Art of Sumou, and are not accorded special admiration or status.
